The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, with its associated website CMS.gov, has awarded Holbrook at Piper Shores the distinguished 5-star quality rating, placing it in the top 10% of nursing homes nationwide. The news arrives as Holbrook advances toward the planned summer 2017 opening of its new assisted living and memory care in Scarborough, which will provide increased residential opportunities for seniors.
“I am extremely proud of the entire team here at Holbrook for receiving the CMS Five-Star Quality Rating,” said Piper Shores CEO Jim Adamowicz. “This achievement puts Holbrook in the company of our nation’s preeminent skilled nursing care centers and is a strong endorsement of the work being done each day by our nurses and staff.”
The CMS Five-Star Quality Rating System was created in 2008 by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to help consumers select and compare skilled nursing care centers and to address top concerns regarding staffing, quality, and nursing home health inspections. The CMS system gives nursing homes a rating of between 1 and 5 stars. Nursing homes with 5 stars are considered to have well above average quality and nursing homes with 1 star are considered to have well below average quality.
Linda LaMontagne, Director of Nursing at Holbrook, notes that her team worked diligently on achieving the 5-star rating, and it was their goal to surpass all expectations. “Our team of 45 to 50 nurses and CNAs, along with all the other staff that provide support and care here, could not be more proud,” said LaMontagne. “This 5-star rating confirms that we are performing well as a team. It also confirms what we have always known, which is that we care for our residents like they are family members.”
LaMontagne added that the CMS rating system gives families a helpful tool when looking for a residence for themselves or family members. “It allows families to compare Holbrook to other residences. Since the rating is available online, it’s easy to find and offers a third-party endorsement of our work.”
